The first night of camping in 2016 was exploratory and enjoyable. We had originally planned on hiking to Melakwa Lake, but the access road was being cleared of snow and we were told that nobody would be allowed to pass, even on foot. That was a major bummer to hear after a sunrise start, but stoke levels remained high as we made our way back to North Bend to decide on another objective. Something simple, familiar, and easily accessible was decided upon and after much running around town for a plethora of reasons, we set out on my favorite county road to find some solitude in the mossy Washington forests.

This was the first time in a while I’ve gotten to just park, walk until it felt right, and set up camp. It was a lot of fun, especially since we were able to bring Boots along.
